Hello humans! Excited to share my latest discovery - the Canistel fruit. Was at lunch with my family under Block 19 of Lorong 7 Toa Payoh, when this bright ornament arrested my curious eye. Have you ever seen a fruit like this?! Since opportunity doesn't knock twice, I knew I had to take it... It appears that the Canistel, a member of the Sapotaceae family, is native to Mexico. And also Belize, Guatemala, and El Salvador (thank you Wiki!). Other names it goes by: Eggfruit, Yellow Sapote, Cupcake fruit... Here is a cross-section of the immensely soft and creamy fruit: I was intrigued by the taste! The hint of honey - reminiscent of a sweet potato with light pumpkin notes. Held by a luscious and buttery texture... like that of an avocado. Even the seed sits similarly within. I took a teaspoon - and the silver steel glided soooooo effortlessly against that delicate orange glossy skin... scooping out the most velvety and rich flesh that melted sweetly onto the warm tongue. So intrigued by this creamy fruit! It turns out - the Canistel is also cultivated in areas closer to us (ie. Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines and Sri Lanka). Probably explains my encounter with it today - which I'm extremely grateful for. Have you tried the Eggfruit? Seems like the season to give it a shot... ☆.+:。(ノ≧∇≦)ノ゙ By the way, the store was also selling yellow dragonfruits from Vietnam. Finally seeing it come from somewhere other than Ecuador! Location: 19 Lor 7 Toa Payoh, Block 19, Singapore 310019

A few days ago, I stumbled upon the Mesta Mangosteen. It was an exciting experience because I had never come across these oblong shaped fruits! Supposedly, this variety has: - Much smaller and less seeds (3 developed ones at most), and - A more "sweet, crisp and tangy" flesh. (Reference from SoCal2warm, Tropical Fruit Forum) Don't find there to be any radical difference although it does taste slightly sweeter and crispier. Has anybody else tried Mesta as well? Mangosteen season is sadly ending soon, so try them if you can! They're available at Teng Tiong Hua Trading Enterprise (301 Serangoon Avenue 2, 01-334, Singapore 550301). (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ
